New ULO/CATT cells almost ready to use
At Haakman Group (Haakman Flowerbulbs B.V. and H&M Flowers B.V.) the final finishing touches are currently being completed on the new ULO/CATT cells, which were realized by Holland Noord Projects, SDK montage, Ateco en Besseling Group. These specially developed, gas-tight cells are used for the storage and treatment of our flower bulbs under precisely controlled conditions. To properly maintain quality, we are investing in these new cells.
ULO stands for Ultra Low Oxygen. In these gas-tight chambers, the oxygen level is reduced to just 1%. This is achieved using nitrogen generators that, with the help of CMS carbon, filter the air and produce pure nitrogen.
Through this technique, the existing oxygen is displaced, creating a controlled atmosphere. Under these conditions, pests such as the tulip gall mite can be effectively controlled.
In addition to this investment, we continue to work with our growers on product quality. By ensuring that flower bulbs are supplied as clean and dry as possible, we strengthen quality throughout the entire supply chain.
During the process, the conditions inside the cells are continuously monitored and controlled, ensuring that the flower bulbs remain in good condition.
At present, the final finishing touches are being completed on the new cells. Once they are ready, the ULO/CATT cells will be put into operation for the upcoming storage season.
